| | USA vs Mexico History | The Herd, from Murrieta, California, Representing the USA in the 12 yr. old division, came away winning the K.I.D.S. International Championship. This was a real team effort, with all of the players being accountable for the win. Some standout defense and great pitching was demonstrated, and Coach Dan Olivas and his staff really got dividends for all their hard work with the boys. Great pitching by starters, Andrew Alessandri, Jay Morales, Andrew Corral and relief work by Daniel Musquiz, D.J. Olivas were also vital. Hitting was a real team effort, and Home runs by Devan Homis, three, Kurtis Millar, two, and one each by Lee Pavoni, Shawn Mooney, Jay Morales and Andrew Corral. Both Lee and Andrews' homeruns were to propel the team to wins. In order to get to the championship game the Herd had to take on the USA San Gabriel Valley Hurricanes 12u. With the game in the bottom of the 7th all tied up 7 to 7 one parent spoke out all we need is a homerun, and with that a pitch was delivered and a towering fly ball sent the Herd into a stamped and on their way to the Championship game to represent the USA against MEXICO.
The final game came down to the USA (The Herd) against MEXICO (Baja National All-Stars), with the final score being 4-1. All of the boys, parents and coaches enjoyed the format, and made many new "Amigos" on the trip. They look forward to the next International Tournament.
The SoCal Redwings came in to Mexico with a mission and the kids came back champions. Led by Bryce Harper & Ernie Zaragoza 7 home runs. Bryce had four and Ernie had three. Johnny Rodriguez and Blake James also hit homers in the tournament. The pitching by far was the key for the Redwings as Marcos Flores, Erick Cruz, Bryce Harper, Jonathon South, Trent Chatterton and Anthony Martinez led a balanced pitching rotation that gave up less than 3 runs per game for the entire tournament while averaging 7 runs on offense. Trent Chatterton made some outstanding catches in centerfield. Johnny Rodriguez at second and Erick Cruz at first also made terrific plays on defense. Bryce Harper had an MVP type tournament leading not only in home runs but making only a few outs in the entire tournament. Blake James also had an outstanding tournament. In the semi championship game against the So Cal Bandits from Norwalk the score was tied 3 to 3 when in the bottom of the 5th Erick Cruz led off with a single Ernie Zaragoza followed him with a double off the wall the Bandits then walked Jonathon South intentionally to load the bases and Joseph Favela coming to the plate, Favela hit a deep fly to left bringing in Erick Cruz for the winning run. In the championship game pitched by Marcos Flores, Jonathon South and Anthony Martinez they together held Baja All Stars to 1 run while Ernie Zaragoza hit two home runs driving in five of the nine runs.
In all it was a great tournament the fields were a great experience the parents had a blast and we look forward to coming back next year to defend our championship. Randy it was a great tournament and Kidsbaseball should be congratulated on a superb event. Bringing international ball to our two countries was a novel idea that should be furthered. Again thanks for the great time.
